(MyFantasyLeague.com Fantasy Times Sources - Dec 22, 2008) In a week 16 Jim Thorpe Rollover League classic, Turf Toes squeaked by a tough J-B's Maulers team by a score of 146 to 142, silencing a partisan crowd of 68,063.
Turf Toes were led to their 4 point victory by a 32 point effort from Tyler Thigpen, who beat the Miami Dolphins defense for 320 passing yards and 2 passing TDs in addition to 57 rushing yards. With this performance, Thigpen was the number 4 ranked quarterback for week 16. They also got help from a 26 point effort from Dallas Clark, who beat the Jacksonville Jaguars defense for 105 receiving yards and 1 receiving TD. "We brought our A-game," Turf Toes coach Jeff Hampton said. J-B's Maulers were helped out in a losing cause by a 34 point effort from Visanthe Shiancoe, who beat the Atlanta Falcons defense for 136 receiving yards and 2 receiving TDs. With this performance, Shiancoe was the number 5 ranked overall fantasy scorer for week 16. They also got help from a 30 point effort from Marques Colston, who got by the Detroit Lions defense for 99 receiving yards and 2 receiving TDs. "They caught us on an off night," J-B's Maulers coach Bob & Jim Ballou said. Adding salt to the wound, J-B's Maulers could have scored 155 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Bob & Jim Ballou left key players like Maurice Morris and his corresponding 13 points on the bench. J-B's Maulers drew the short straw with their schedule this week, as their point total would have resulted in a win against 10 out of 10 other potential opponents in week 16. This brings the record for Turf Toes to 7-6, and drops J-B's Maulers to a record of 7-4-2. | ||||
